Philanthropy is a hallmark of my DNA

Philanthropy is a hallmark of my DNA :I hope more people are inspired by this story and donate to underprivileged

In Jan 2015 when I went to India I donated an antique gold and jewelry set to my AlmaMater Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). This set is very close to my heart as it was given to me by my husband and my in-laws. You will see in this post that how my donation inspired other people also to donate and that is why this story is so unique.

Film Review of the Wonderful movie "Room"

Film Review of the Wonderful movie "Room"

By:  Afshan Naheed Hashmi, PhD, C(ASCP), RAC

I was invited (courtesy DC Filmmakers) for a special screening followed by Q and A with the American actress of the movie Brie Larson. I met Brie Larson and she said to me "Nice meeting you Doc Afshan". I also asked her the question which she answered to my full satisfaction. I really liked Brie Larson that being on such great heights of success she is such a down to earth person. Not only is she beautiful but also so warm to talk as if you are talking to your friend whom you know for ages.

Room is  a 2015 Canadian-Irish drama thriller film written by Emma Donoghue, based on her best- selling novel of the same name and directed by Lenny Abrahamson  The film stars Brie LarsonJacob TremblayJoan AllenSean Bridgers, and William H. Macy. It was shown in the special presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, after premiering at Telluride Film Festival. The film is scheduled to be released in a limited release on October 16, 2015, before being released nationwide on November 6, 2015, by A24 Films .

In this film I saw my Jugaad philosophy as the actress Brie Larson in order to escape from the sexual abuse she thought out of the box and came up with a successful strategy. My Jugaad philosophy is explained in detail in the book which I have written:

My Book:  The Modern Mughal Mentality-New Strategies to Succeed in India and the Global Marketplace  (http://www.amazon.com/Afshan-Naheed-Hashmi/e/B010A8XBLG/ref=dp_byline_cont_ebooks_1)

Hollywood and Bollywood  has always inspired me. All the actors have done a wonderful job especially Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay. The movie touches the sensitive topic of sexual abuse with a child born out of this relationship. The journey of seven years in that room and also a five-year child living with her mother .  Jacob Tremblay  a 8-year-old child's acting mesmerized me. Not only me but everybody who sees the film will adore him.

You will love the movie and will be engrossed in seeing the movie as it takes beautiful turns and twists.. I predict that this movie is really Oscar -winning material.

I highly recommend this movie and give it 5 stars.

Today, Malala  Yousafzai, is not only an inspirational story ,but a movement and ideology. Malala does not need any introduction and she is the youngest Nobel Prize laureate. as well  as a  Pakistani activist . Director Davis Guggenheim, who made the Oscar-winning "An Inconvenient Truth", did a wonderful job in paying tribute to Malala and her family. Film was opened with Malala being named, after a 19th century freedom fighter woman against the British in Afghanistan. The  beautiful pastel drawings for which some may feel is being overused; but I think that Guggenheim clearly wanted to find an innovative way or thinking out of the box the Jugaad philosophy which I have outlined in my book The Modern Mughal Mentality. By collaboration with Jason Carpenter a talented young animator the filmmaker really tried to show these drawings in a creative way.

The basic story touches one's heart and soul; a true story of this brave young girl. Malala showed that Islam is about peace and not what Taliban have shown to the world. When the Taliban took over Malala's village in the Swat Valley of Pakistan, books and videos were burned. Women and  girls were forbidden any education except religious education. Malala  stood up and spoke against this policy, first on a BBC blog and later publicly, and she was shot in the head by the Taliban at the age of 15.  A miracle happened that she survived when transported to England for surgery. The left side of her face is partially paralyzed and in the hospital she spent months recuperating.

The information showcased in the film is not in a linear fashion which depicts some gaps.  Malala is travelling around the world with her father to spread her message. Also people will learn what are some culture differences from these part of the world and West.

Malala has co-authored  the bestselling book, "I Am Malala." I just loved her youngest brother. The youngest sibling in the family connects to the audience very well. Malala and her family now live in Birmingham, England. Malala's mother misses her family in Pakistan. The filmmaker has the trust of the family which is the best award any filmmaker can get.

I give the movie 5 stars and would highly recommend everyone to see it
